Thanks for the welcome.

The bug has been put on the back burner for a while, I'm a small ranch owner so that must come first. The bay I picked up about six months ago.

Here are links to pics.

Thanks, I'm getting ready to replace the seals, I have to replace most of the wood on the top and I have a new canvas for it. Waiting for the engine tin seal and a alt. stand so I can change the motor over from a gen. Just finished removing about 2mm of paint from the dash pan the defrost vents mount to. Mad

Some of the paint jobs yea.

It was a rolling hull with a trans and a crap load of trash when I got it. I traded a '73 super for it.
If you check the link you can see what I have done so far. http://public.fotki.com/BeetleWarrior/my-dubs/73bay/

Going to build a custom interior for it. Will be taking pics of that as it comes along.
I'm going to build a 1600 for it. The alternator stand and compartment seal came in today.

Standard for this motor. It's not a universal case so I have to use an adapter. I've got another motor that is a universal case that collecting parts for. It will be a 1641 with a 110 cam, big valve heads, progressive 2 brl. carb motor.

I have been scared of duel carbs for years, but I've decided to build a 1776 with duel carbs to put in the bay once the bug is ready for the street. I'll then put the 1641 in the bug and feed it some laughing gas. (NOS) Twisted Evil

A long, long time ago.... Like 1983 when I first got into VW's a friend of mine had duel carbs. He was always working on them and jacking with it. It left us walking a few times. So I developed a dislike for them. My second wife didn't and still doesn't care for VW's so I got away from them until our son was 16.
He thought he wanted one so we found him a fixer upper. He quickly got bored and it became mine. Very Happy

So with the fuel cost rising at the time like it was I jumped in deep and learned as much as I could. Seams my old buddy never knew about synchronizing the carbs. Shocked

As for the gas, your on your own mate. Wink

Haha Smile.

I have had the same sort of experience, But it was with Fuel Injection. Always managed to break down in a storm Evil or Very Mad .

Fuel injection is good when its running well, But bad bad bad when theres even a little thing wrong with it.
